Deactivating Your Account

If you found a roommate successfully (or if your needs have changed and you no longer need a roommate), you might want to consider deactivating your Roommates.com account. Deactivating your account will remove your profile from the site, automatically cancel your recurring membership (if applicable), and prevent you from receiving additional account notification emails.

To deactivate your account:

  1. Login to your account.
  2. Click on your profile picture on the top right-hand corner of the page.
  3. Choose "Account" from the drop-down.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "Deactivate My Account" link.
  5. Choose your reason for canceling your account and provide any additional detail you think would be helpful for us to know (we appreciate the feedback).
  6. Click on the "Deactivate Your Account" button.
  7. Your account is now deactivated and hidden from the site, but you'll be free to log back in at any time to reactivate your account so you can continue to use Roommates.com.

What if I do nothing?

If you don't login to manually deactivate your account, not a problem! After 44 days of inactivity, we will automatically deactivate your account for you. This action is taken automatically in order to reduce the number of outdated/inactive profiles on the site.

However, if you decide to return to the site after your account is deactivated, not a problem! You'll be free to log back in to your deactivated account at any time in order to reactivate so you can continue your search for the perfect roommate. We'd love to see you again and assist with your search!

Please note: if you "Hide" your profile, it will delay the 44-day countdown caused by inactivity for 3 months. Hiding a profile can be a great option if your roommate needs are up in the air; it keeps your profile from being visible to other users, but enables you to search and review Matches in order to look into potential roommate options. Please see our Hide or Unhide Profile page for more information.
