Verifying Your Account

Roommates.com includes several ways to verify your account. Each verification level that you complete will light up a different verification badge on your account that will signal to other potential roommates that you are a real person and that you are who you say you are.

You can access your different levels of verification through your Roommates.com account. Simply click on your avatar or profile picture on the top right-hand side of your screen, click on "account" from the drop-down, and you will find the 4 verification options on the left-hand side of your account screen in a yellow box. 

Although not all levels of verification are required, we highly recommend utilizing all verification options as it gives people more confidence in contacting you and increases your chances of connecting with someone. 

Verification Levels

Email

This verification level is required on all accounts and is completed when you sign up for your account (if you don't sign up with through an Apple ID). Once you sign up, we will send you an email requesting that you verify your email address with a single click. 

Facebook Account 

If you don't sign up via your Facebook account, you will later have the option to verify your Facebook account through Roommates.com.

To add this level of verification to your account via our website please follow these instructions:

  • Click on your profile pic or avatar on the upper right of your screen.
  • Choose "Account" from the drop-down.
  • Locate the "Verify your account" section. 
  • Click "Facebook"
  • Click "Connect Facebook" and follow the instructions from there. 

To add this level of verification to your account via our mobile app please follow these instructions:

  • Tap the menu icon in the upper right.
  • Tap "Verifications"
  • Tap "Connect Facebook" and follow the instructions from there. 

Once these are connected and verified, your profile screen should show a green checkmark below your name that shows that you've verified your account via Facebook. 

Apple 

If you don't sign up via your Apple account, you will later have the option to verify your Apple account through Roommates.com.

To add this level of verification to your account via our website please follow these instructions:

  • Click on your profile pic or avatar on the upper right of your screen.
  • Choose "Account" from the drop-down.
  • Locate the "Verify your account" section. 
  • Click "Apple"
  • Click "Connect Apple" and follow the instructions from there. 

To add this level of verification to your account via our mobile app please follow these instructions:

  • Tap the menu icon in the upper right.
  • Tap "Verifications"
  • Tap "Sign in with Apple" and follow the instructions from there. 

Once these are connected and verified, your profile screen should show a green checkmark below your name that shows that you've verified your account via Apple. 

Phone Number

Verifying your cell phone number is another great way to signal to people that you are a real person.

To add this level of verification to your account via our website please follow these instructions:

  • Click on your profile pic or avatar on the upper right of your screen.
  • Choose "Account" from the drop-down.
  • Locate the "Verify your account" section. 
  • Click "Phone Number"
  • Enter your phone number and then click "Send Code."
  • Within a few minutes, you should receive a text message to your phone with a code. 
  • Return to this section and enter the code and click "Verify Code."

To add this level of verification to your account via our mobile app please follow these instructions:

  • Tap the menu icon in the upper right.
  • Tap "Verifications"
  • Enter your phone number under the "Phone" section.
  • Tap "Send"
  • Enter your phone number and then tap "Send Code."
  • Within a few minutes, you should receive a text message to your phone with a code. 
  • Return to this section and enter the code and click "Verify Code."

Once your phone # is verified via the texted code, your profile screen should show a green checkmark below your name that shows that you've verified your phone number. 

If you change phone numbers or want to remove this verification option in the future, simply return to the phone number verification section and click on "disconnect phone number."

Please note: Your phone number will never be visible to the public through the verification process.

Legal ID 

You can purchase Identity Verification for a one-time upgrade of $2.99, or if you are a monthly recurring subscriber we offer this service to you for free. This will verify your legal identification and is the highest level of verification we offer. The verification purchased will remain on your account for as long as you have your account!

To add this level of verification to your account please follow these instructions:

  • If you are using the website, click on your profile pic or avatar on the upper right of your screen. If you are using the mobile app, click the menu icon in the top right.
  • For the website, choose "Account" from the drop-down. For the mobile app, choose "Verifications."
  • Choose "ID Verification."
  • You will then be given a confirmation screen to enter your payment information to purchase the $2.99 ID verification.
  • A new box will appear, follow the instructions to get your ID verified. 
  • If our third-party partner (Stripe) is able to verify all information through their proprietary system, your profile screen should show a green checkmark below your name that shows that you've verified your legal ID.
  • Please note: We allow up to 2 attempts per purchase to verify your ID. If you fail both attempts, we do not offer refunds for this service. Please refer to the Legal ID Verification Information FAQ for more details and best practices to help ensure a successful ID verification.
