Verifying Your Account
Roommates.com offers several levels of account verification. Each verification level you complete will display a unique badge on your profile, helping to show others that you value transparency and are committed to building trust on the site.
To Manage Your Verifications:
- Login to your Roommates.com account.
- Click the Menu Icon (three horizontal lines) in the upper-right corner.
- Click Verifications below.
Although not all levels of verification are required, we highly recommend utilizing all verification options (if possible) as it gives other users more confidence in contacting you and increases your chances of connecting with a perfect roommate.
Verification Levels
Email verification is required for all accounts to ensure security and deliverability. Once you create your Roommates.com account, we will send a Welcome email containing two ways to verify your address.
To Verify Your Email:
- Method 1 ("Welcome" Email Link):
- Locate the "Welcome" email you received after you created your account.
- Click the Verify Email button within the email.
- You will be redirected to a page labeled Confirm Account.
- Simply click the Confirm my account button to verify your email.
- Method 2 ("Welcome" Email Code):
- Locate the "Welcome" email you received after you created your account.
- Copy the 6-digit code provided in the email.
- Login to your Roommates.com account
- Navigate to the Verifications page, enter the code into the designated field, and click Verify Email.
Troubleshooting & Re-Requesting
If you did not receive a verification email, we recommend checking your Spam, Junk, or Promotions folders. To ensure our emails reach you, please add support@roommates.com and noreply@roommates.com to your email account's Contact List before requesting a new one.
To Re-Request Your Verification Email:
- Login to your Roommates.com account.
- Click the Menu Icon (three horizontal lines) in the upper-right corner.
- Click Verifications in the Menu below.
- Click Resend Verification Email.
- You will receive a new email titled Verify your email address to get started! which will contain a fresh verification link and a new 6-digit code.
Phone Number
Phone verification is required for all Roommates.com accounts. If you have not completed this verification level, you should be automatically redirected to a page reading "Get a verification code" when you login. You can complete your phone verification through this page directly.
To Verify Your Phone Number:
- Enter your nine-digit phone number in the text field. Once you have entered your number successfully, the "Send Code" button below should turn green.
- Click the "Verify" button. The page should automatically refresh, displaying a text field to enter your code.
- Within a few minutes, you should receive a text message containing a seven-digit code. Enter the code you received in the text field and click "Submit Code" below.
- Once you see text reading "Thanks for verifying!", your phone number has been verified successfully!
If you change phone numbers or want to remove this verification option in the future, simply return to the phone number verification section and click on "disconnect phone number."
Please keep the following points in mind:
- Your phone number will never be visible to the public through the verification process. The only way other Roommates.com users can access your phone number is if you provide it through your Profile or in messages sent to other users.
- When completing phone verification, standard SMS rates may apply.
- Please note that a United States number with a "+1" country code is required for phone verification.
Legal ID
You can purchase Identity Verification for a one-time fee of $2.99 (or, if you are a monthly recurring subscriber, we offer this verification for free!). The Identity Verification option is completed with your legal identification, and the completed verification will remain on your account for as long as your account is active!

To Verify Your ID:
- Login to your Roommates.com account.
- Click the Menu Icon (three horizontal lines) in the upper-right corner.
- Click "Verifications" below.
- Click Purchase ID Verification. You will then be given a confirmation screen to enter your payment information to purchase the $2.99 ID verification.
- A new box will appear; follow the instructions to get your ID verified.
- If our third-party partner (iDenfy) is able to verify all information through their proprietary system, your Profile page will display a badge which indicates that you've verified your ID.
Please note: We allow up to 2 attempts per purchase to verify your ID. If you fail both attempts, we do not offer refunds for this service (unless your ID verification attempts were purchased to complete our high risk verification procedure).
