Change or Cancel an Upgraded Membership

We recognize that sometimes needs change, so we make it easy to cancel recurring monthly memberships and/or to change to a different membership option. At any time, you can:

To Cancel a Recurring Membership:


  1. Login to your Roommates.com account.
  2. Click on the Menu Icon (three horizontal lines) in the upper-right.
  3. Click VIP Membership below. 
  4. Click Cancel Subscription
  5. Click Yes, Cancel Subscription.

After successfully canceling your recurring membership, no further payments will be charged. However, you’ll retain all VIP benefits until the end of your current paid period, after which your account will return to the basic, non-upgraded level.

Please note: if you purchased a recurring membership through our iOS app, you'll need to use a different procedure to cancel it. Check out Managing Your iOS Subscription for details.

Additionally, if you see an unauthorized charge for a Roommates.com membership made through Apple, please understand Apple processes these payments directly. As such, please refer to Apple’s guides regarding Canceling Subscriptions and Requesting Refunds, or contact Apple Support to resolve the issue.

After you've canceled your recurring membership, you'll be free to purchase a different membership option immediately. The unused portion of your first membership will be refunded automatically, and your second membership will begin immediately after your purchase.

To Switch to a Different Membership Option (After Canceling a Membership):


  1. Login to your Roommates.com account and complete the process outlined above for cancelling a recurring membership.
  2. Next, on your VIP Membership page, click Select Plan beneath the new membership you wish to purchase.
  3. Next, enter your card information and click Submit Payment.
  4. Once you successfully purchase your new membership, the unused portion of your older membership will be refunded automatically, and your new membership will begin immediately after purchase. Please note that it may take up to 5 business days for a prorated refund to appear on your card statement.

If you prefer, you can also upgrade to a higher membership tier without canceling your current membership. This option can be easier, as it applies a prorated credit for you unused membership time towards your new purchase.

To Upgrade Your Membership to a Higher Tier:


  1. Go to your VIP Membership page.
  2. Find the membership tier you’d like to upgrade to and select Upgrade to this plan.
  3. Review the price shown after your prorated credit is applied.
  4. Select Yes, upgrade my plan to confirm.

Once you confirm the upgrade, your new VIP membership term begins immediately. Any unused time from your previous plan has already been factored into your credit.
