Report and Block Users
Unfortunately people aren't always on their best behavior online, which is why we've made reporting problematic users (or blocking them entirely) a straightforward process. Reporting and blocking is a great way to notify our Support Team about potentially fraudulent users and/or users who have violated our Terms of Service in order to help ensure that Roommates.com is a safe, positive place to search for the perfect roommate!
However, please keep in mind that if you choose to block another user, the only way to unblock them is through an existing Conversation Thread with the user in your Message Center. If there was not a preexisting conversation with the user which took place before you blocked them, you will not be able to unblock the user, so we strongly recommend making sure that you wish to permanently cease contact with them before blocking in this scenario.
Reporting Users
- Locate the profile of the user you wish to report.
- Click on their profile and scroll to the bottom of their page.
- Click "Report".
- Choose the reason you are reporting the user.
- Click "Report" at the bottom.
OR, to do so through a conversation in your Message Center...
- Open the Conversation Thread with the user in your Message Center.
- Click the "three dots in a vertical line" icon in the upper-right.
- Click "Report".
- Choose the reason you are reporting the user to Roommates.com
- Click "Report" at the bottom.
Blocking a User
- Locate the profile of the user you wish to block.
- Click on their profile and scroll to the bottom of their page.
- Click the "Block" option.
- You will see a pop-up that explains what happens when you block a user.
- Confirm that you wish to block this user by clicking "Block Them".
OR, to do so through a conversation in your Message Center...
- Open the Conversation Thread with the user in your Message Center.
- Click the "three dots in a vertical line" icon in the upper-right.
- Click "Block".
- You will see a pop-up that explains what happens when you block a user.
- Confirm that you wish to block this user by clicking the "Block Them" button.
- If you have a change of heart, you can navigate back to the conversation you had with them in your Message Center Archive, and there will be an option to unblock them near the top. Please note that once you block a user, any existing Conversation Thread with them is automatically moved to your Archive, so be sure to check your Archive for the Thread if you wish to unblock the user at a later point.
